My guide in Kyoto was Masamitsu Kaneko who can be seen on some photos (14 and 57). He is also the author of some pictures shown here (Numbers 28, 42, 51 and 68. These photos are marked by „(by MK)”).
We went to Kyoto to attend the International Meeting for Future of Electron Devices, Kansai. The most original lecturer was Professor Masahiko Tsukamoto (Photo 1) who popularizes wearable computing. The conference presentations took place in Kyoto University Clock Tower Centennial Hall (Photo 2).
After all presentations of the second day of the conference, we went along Imadegawa Street (Philosopher's Walk) to Ginkaku-ji Temple. Unfortunately, it was being closed (Photo 6). So we were going along a river and contemplating the beauty of blooming trees, animals, and builings.
The surroundings of our hotel „Heian no Mori Kyoto” (photo 30): St. Mary's Church (the Anglican-Episcopal Church, photo 28), the temple (photo 29).
In the evening after the end of the conference, we went to the center of Kyoto.
One day after the conference was devoted to sightseeing. Firstly we visited Ginkaku-ji Temple which we could not see two days before. The temple is inside a so-called zen garden.
Next, we went to the Kyoto railway station to put our baggage to lockers. We could see the tower near the station.
The next point of our sightseeing was Nijo-jo castle surrounded by a magnificent garden. It is prohibited to take pictures in the castle but you can see some photos in the page www.city.kyoto.jp/bunshi/nijojo/ninomaru.html. A striking feature of the castle is floor which squeaks when anybody walks on it. It was done to prevent an attempt on the life of a shogun who was living in Nijo-jo.
We finished our trip in Kiyomizu-dera.
